Regular Part-Time Position : MFIP Job Counselor

Work Schedule: 24 Hours Per Week

Location: Alexandria Workforce Center

Salary:   Entry Level Grade 9

Filing Deadline: August 6, 2010
$14.95/hour to $17.29/hour

Primary Objectives of Position: Provides a variety of counseling services for the purpose of assisting agency clients to become self-supporting by planning for, securing and maintaining employment; and to assist families to achieve maximum family stability through employment plans. Assist agency clients to meet MFIP participation requirements.

Required Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social services, or related discipline. English language proficient.  Must work effectively in team-structured delivery system. Able to deal with people individually or in groups. Abililty to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. No prior history of client abuse. Process a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:  Exceptional written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.  At least one year of client service experience. Knowledgeable of computer programs and software.

Essential Functions:
1.  Conducts comprehensive assessment to identify physical and/or mental abilities, barriers to employment and program service options.

2.  Assists clients to develop a meaningful Employment Plan to maximize family stability and employment.

3. Assist clients to successfully implement their individual plans for self-sufficiency by providing professional advice/guidance.

4. Arranges for agency supportive services in program participation.

5. Utilizes external resources and services to support MFIP/FSS client needs.

6. Assist appropriate clients to contact the Social Security Administration or Legal Services.

7. Attains or exceeds prescribed MFIP performance standards on a monthly basis.

8. Maintains documentation of client contacts and progress related to their individual plans.

9. Develops prospective worksite for clients scheduled to enter paid or unpaid work.

10. Interacts with County to coordinate services, conduct orientations and monitor client progress.

11. Maintains knowledge and understanding of MFIP policy requirements.
