Temporary Full-Time Position : Summer Youth Crew Leader

Salary:   Entry Level Grade 8

$13.43/hour to $15.47/hour

Primary Objectives of Position: This position exists to supervise,motivate, direct and coordinate a crew of youth workers (aged 14-24) in a structured program of work, service and training; evaluate youth performance; and, document and report outcomes. Duties will be performed under direction of regular program staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


1.  Contact area community agencies, organizations and local governments to solicit/develop service projects and project support.

2.  Lead a team of youth in the delivery of community service projects.

3.  Supervise and work along with youth participants to ensure proper work behavior and ensure participants keep on task.

4.  Plan daily and weekly work schedules for crew and distribute work among crewmembers.

5.  Instruct youth participants on the duties and activities to be performed on the job.

6.  Train youth in and implement safe work practices such as proper use and maintenance of tools, supplies, environmental education, equipment, safety procedures and workplace safety.

7.  Foster and encourage the development of good work habits including punctuality, efficient use of work time and good work behaviors.

8.  Prepare reports of workplace projects, incident reports, and accurate documents of crew member attendance, participation, work hours, and skill attainment.

9. Conduct regular crew and individual meetings to discuss progress.

10. Maintain discipline and positive crew morale and foster team-work among crew members.

11. Follow all agency policies and procedures including mandatory reporting requirements.

 

Qualifications:     Must be able to relate well to youth and to work in a team environment. Must provide own transportation and have valid driver's license with good driving record. No history of client abuse. Able to communicate effectively with a diverse group of young adults. Readiness to perform manual labor alongside crew members; work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, attention to detail. Knowledge of principles of supervision, work organization, team-building. Must be able to relate well to youth and to work in a team environment. Previous experience with public contact preferred.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in community development, youth development or industrial arts.
